Part of my insurance hoop jumping requires me to be part of a 90 day supervised diet, exercise and medical plan. As part of this, I met with a Certified Dietitian last week.
When I think of a dietitian, I immediately picture a stuffy, vegetable eatin', skinny, healthnut! Well, the NUT portion of healthnut totally fits the personality of my dietitian. She was absolutely awesome. We laughed the entire appointment. I'm sure everyone could hear us in the offices next door.
Although she isn't able to put me a on strict diet plan at this time (since I can't lose weight), she does want me to start making habit changes. That way when insurance approves, we can kick in to overdrive with the strictness right before surgery.
One of the habits she wants me to break is my love of Diet Dr. Pepper. In my world, on a standard day, I drink around 32-40 ounces of the wonderful stuff. In the world of nutrition, this is a NO-NO. In the world of gastric bypass, this is PAINFUL!! After a bypass, your stomach pouch is tinee-tiny.... fill that pouch up with carbonation and you have a recipe for disaster.
So, it's time to start weening myself off of the JUICE! (There is NO WAY I am going to go cold turkey....hehehe!) I started the process on Monday and I am doing okay at it. Limiting myself to around 20 ounces a day. I hope to be down to half that amount next week. So....I give you all permission to check on me if you see me drinking a Diet Dr. Pepper. Make sure I'm not cheating myself. I'll keep you updated on my progress and let you know when the habit has been completely broken.
