A Miserable Night with Wonderful Results

I know I've been pretty quiet lately, but I've had good reason. Last week was really pretty crazy for me and at the center of my week was a 21 hour sleep study...yes, 21 LONG hours in a sleep lab.

First of all, the sleep study was issued by my doctor to make sure I have no Sleep Apnea prior to my surgery. They also were checking to see if I have Narcolepsy since I am so tired during the day.

I checked in for the nighttime sleep study at 8:30pm on Wednesday evening. If you never had a sleep study done, let me explain a bit...they SUCK! You get absolutely no sleep. I took a picture of myself with my cell phone to show you all what kind of crap you have to sleep with. On top of all of the wires and tape on your face and head, there are also two straps going across your chest and stomach, and two wires coming off of both legs. It is miserable.

The daytime study was a new experience for me. They woke up at 6am and took off most of the body wires and wires around my nose. The rest on my head and face were left on. Basically, I was asked to take a nap every 2 hours so they could measure how quickly I fell asleep and if I went into REM. Mind you...these naps are not MY kind of naps. They are only 15 minutes. So just when you get good and relaxed, they come wake you up. Then, you wait another 2 hours for the next nap. In between the naps you can watch TV or read...there was no internet at all..ugh! I was so bored. I watched pointless daytime TV and finished a book.

I took naps that day at 9am, 11am, 1pm, 3pm and 5pm. It was 5:30pm before I got out of there. I feel asleep during the first 3 naps but not the last two. I was so tired by the time I got home that I was worthless to my family.

The sleep doctor called on Friday and I am all clear on both Sleep Apnea and Narcolepsy. Yay!

Ugghh...what a day! I've been through the night time sleep study. What you did was probably more like what I needed. I have sleep paralysis and other issues, but of course, me just going to sleep in a cold, hotel room didn't show any of that.

Glad to hear you got good results though!
