Just Another Side Effect

(This post is dedicated to my friend Kelly!!! hehehe)

One of the side effects of rapid weight loss is hair loss. I knew it was a possibility, but I was hoping I could slide by and not have it happen to me. Well...about 2 weeks or so ago, I started noticing that more and more hair would come out in the shower and then while I was getting ready. I feel like a shedding cat...there is hair everywhere. I'm going to have to wear a hairnet just to fix dinner for my family.

I found this online..."Hair loss in rapid weight loss plans generally occurs due to reduced in take of proteins. Following weight loss surgery, hair loss starts occurring in the fourth and fifth month. This results from the shedding of your hair follicles. With reduced protein intake your body sacrifices hair that is made from proteins to make the little protein available to more important body functions. It especially pronounced in weight loss surgery as these individual have extremely low protein diets."

So, this morning, I decided to take pictures of how much hair I am actually losing. This picture is the hair that I came out while I was shampooing and conditioning. It was much more impressive when it was stuck to the shower wall, but this is a pretty sizable ball of hair none-the-less.

This picture is what the sink looks like after I have dried and straightened my hair.

Now, just imagine what is going down the drain in the shower or falls to the floor in our bathroom...so along with the Nioxin that I am buying tomorrow, I guess I better get a bottle of Draino too.

I am really trying to laugh this one off, but I am really upset about it. I have thick hair, but it is extremely fine. The hair loss is supposed to be temporary and as soon as my nutrition levels go back to normal, the hair is supposed to come back too. I sure hope it does!

This happened to a friend of mine who lost a lot of weight on WW. It's only temporary! Promise!

Hair loss is one of the symptoms of lupus, too, and it SUCKS! My shower wall looks like chia pet, lol. When it grows back in, you end up with all of these little fine hairs sticking straight up on your head, too, until they grow long enough to lay down. But it is temporary and worth it, so hang in there!
