In my effort to make more protein based meals and add a little variety, I have learned that I am a culinary idiot.
Two weeks ago, I made my first pot roast. Yes, I am 36 years old and I have never cooked a roast. My dream was a juicy, succulent roast...my reality was a dry, brick of meat. I was so disappointed.
Then, I attempted to make homemade salsa. I've made it before, but it has been years. So, I used the food processor and cut up tomatoes, onions, cilantro and jalapenos...and somehow, I managed to screw it up. It was the nastiest tasting salsa. Way too much onion and cilantro.
So, by this point...two cooking failures, I have been a little 'gun-shy' at trying anything new again. But, I gave another roast a whirl and I am so happy to report that it turned out amazing. It is so juicy, that when I tried to take it out of the crock pot, it fell apart.
As part of my goals for 2010, I need to learn how to cook...at least how to cook new recipes. So, I want to take cooking classes. Does anyone know of a good place to take recreational cooking classes??? Let me know if you do.

I'm with you on having never made a pot roast at 28, but I don't like pot roast so I don't see it EVER happening! ha!
NOW salsa! I LOVE salsa! In fact Aleeyah has liked it ever since she could eat solids. Why? Because she had lots of it while she was dining on whatever I ate.
I've had lots of great comments on my salsa-so I thought I'd share. I've been meaning to post it on my blog so I'll get over there and o it rather than taking up all your comment space! ha!
There are so many different recipes out there. Chris and I started with one and changed it each time to get it where we liked it. It makes a perfectly large batch. :)
I hate to cook! Baking I love! Cooking not so much!
You don't need a cooking class, you just need to consult your good friends that cook more often!! Although healthy may not be on the menu!! Ha!!
That is why Clay cooks... and why I eat popcorn when he's out of town!
