Give Me a Moment to Vent, Please!

I saw a news report this morning about a high water warning for a river in Calgary, Canada. However, extreme sport kayakers are swarming the area, because the high waters make it more thrilling.

Don't they realize that not only are they putting their lives at risk (which I get the risk is the thrill of it for them)...but they are also putting the lives of the rescue workers at risk. My hubby is one of those rescue workers and I would like for him to not have to put his life at more risk than necessary.

And although this is in Canada, the same crap happens here in good ole Oklahoma. Think about flooded roads and the number of people that drive into the water rushing across the road. And because they couldn't be inconvenienced for a few minutes to turn around and find another route, they get stuck in the water and someone must come save them. Unfortunately, this is done at no cost to the victim. I am not saying that they shouldn't be saved, but if you are stupid enough to drive into high water, you should get billed for the services that save your life.

Ok...that is my vent. Thanks for listening.

Good point. I don't think most of us consider the lives of those who are always ready and willing to rescue us when we have been stupid. This is an excellent reminder...

I completely understand this one. I get INSANELY PISSED when something happens in another country (Libya, Yemen, etc.) and all the talking heads start saying "The U.S. should do something about this..." Um, HELLO, don't be sending my husband to foreign countries, OK? For every bomb we drop, aid we deliver, or security we provide, there are hordes of soldiers who have to leave their homes and families and risk theirs. In some cases, it is completely warranted and I am all for protecting the human rights of others. But in many cases, we have no business sticking our noses into the skirmishes and political crap of other nations, especially when they get themselves into the mess. So I completely get the resentment of people doing stupid-a$$ stuff and having your husband get drug into the mess at the risk of his own life.
