Off the Book Shelf: The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

When I saw this book in one of my emails from Barnes and Noble, I had no doubt that I would be buying it.  First, it is written by Maggie Stiefvater...the author of The Wolves of Mercy Falls series. (You click HERE for book one review, HERE for book two and HERE for book three.)  Second, it includes magic and private school boys.

The Raven Boys is also going to be a series and is off to a very strong start.  The book has a quirky female lead who lives in a house full of psychics, but she has no powers herself.  It also has a cast of male leads from the local private school...these boys are in search of the local magic that is said to emanate around this town.  I enjoyed every second of this book and am curious to see where Stiefvater will take this story and these characters for book two.

It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive.
Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them-not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her.
His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.
But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can't entirely explain. He has it all-family money, good looks, devoted friends-but he's looking for much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys:  Adam, the scholarship student who resents the priviledge around him; Ronan, the fierce soul whose emotions range from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher who notices many things but says very little.

For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true to die.  She doesn't believe in true love and never thought this would be a problem.  But as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she's not so sure anymore.

I am very curious about this series, but am wary until the sequels come out because I didn't like how the other series ended. :/
